Evaluate Reflection

Consider the following standards:

(from iNacol, the International Association for Online Learning, publishes Standards for Quality Online Teaching)

  • Standard D: The online teacher promotes student success through clear expectations, prompt responses, and regular feedback.
  • Standard G: The online teacher demonstrates competencies in creating and implementing assessments in online learning environments in ways that ensure validity and reliability of the instruments and procedures.
  • Standard H: The online teacher develops and delivers assessments, projects, and assignments that meet standards-based learning goals and assesses learning progress by measuring student achievement of the learning goals.
  • Standard I: The online teacher demonstrates competency in using data from assessments and other data sources to modify content and to guide student learning.

How has the Evaluate module prepared you to meet each standard listed above? Link to or provide specific examples from your work in Evaluate.
This module prepared me to meet all standards by illustrating how using data benefits both student and teacher by showing strengths and weakness in comprehension. The various tools available in most LMS sites allow for accessing data. The competency tools enable a teacher to be much more effective, and they help the student reach learning and skills goals with faster retention while strengthening critical-thinking.

What strategies will you take away from the Evaluate module and apply to your teaching?
The section regarding feedback offered great resources and ways to be specific, thoughtful and stressed the importance of feedback overall. The link below relates to Standard H.

What lessons were most beneficial for you?
The section on Resources for Personalized Teaching and Learning was needed for use in my current classroom, and I wish I would’ve had access to the book, What Works in K–12 Online Learning before now!

The lesson on feedback was most beneficial to me as far as showing different methods to use for delivering feedback as well as how to dialogue with students that is encouraging yet focuses on areas of improvement. The various tools that allow for video and audio while looking at student work are particularly useful. This relates to Standard D.
