Answer in your blog: Why is it important for an instructor to consider student performance data when providing feedback?
In giving feedback, it’s important to know student’s strengths and weaknesses applicable to the content (i.e. software skills, concept understanding, vocabulary). Looking at performance data and previous assignments will help guide the critique discussion with in-depth, specific feedback.
How can feedback be both observational and instructional?
By observing students’ work habits, instructors can see how time is spent, specific areas of interest as it pertains to the assignment and learning style. These observations can be help guide feedback or grading.

With instructional feedback, information is given about how students are doing in efforts to reach a specific goal. Discussion is done on how to make progress and dialogue is concrete, specific, and useful to student achieving success.
