Post in your blog: Describe the walkabout experience and include the link to the list of social-bookmarked resources compiled during the exploration. Answer in your blog:
What were the three most useful tools or resources resulting from the web walkabout? Explain why you found them useful and include a link to each resource. How can students be taught to safely collect tools and resources that can help them maximize their learning? What policies or procedures might need to be in place to make the above item possible?
To make my classroom and presentations more fun and unique for students and their learning, I try to use new digital resources when possible. There are many to choose from but following are my favorites: PurposeGames, Powtoons, and Poll Everywhere.
I like PurposeGames for the ease with which a teacher can create matching games & quizzes. There are tournaments that students can participate in to obtain skills, rank and badges. The students enjoy the competition with classmates and myself.
Powtoons is one of my frequently used tools for creating teaching assets, critiques and lessons. My students recently used it to showcase their portfolio.
Participoll enables teachers to quickly create a poll based on class content created in Powerpoint. It serves as a great assessment tool, ice-breaker and lesson introduction and students seem to find it interesting especially since the poll results can be seen immediately.
Students can be taught to collect and use resources. I frequently show students the Common Sense Media and the Digital Citizenship websites. The resources include a blog with games, articles and posters. Both sites address how to find quality, legitimate web resources and general digital citizenship guidelines.
