Evaluate 1 – Formative Assessments

Artifact: Create a formative assessment related to a learning standard. Post a link to the assessment or activity and standard in your blog. Explain the purpose of the assessment.

Following is an assessment created in Quizzmaker. The purpose was to determine if students understood basic graphic design concepts and fundamental Adobe Illustrator skills covered up to that point in the school year. The quiz covered vocabulary, software interface, design process and principles and creative techniques.

Reflect: Consider the best means of developing and delivering assessments, projects, and assignments that meet standards-based learning goals and assess learning progress by measuring student achievement of learning goals.
Providing a variety of methods of assessment creates interest for the student while accommodating various learning styles. Digital methods in particular serve as an interesting resource.

How does your assessment provide students multiple opportunities to demonstrate understanding, practice concepts or self-check progress? How does the assessment allow you to assess student readiness for course content?
By offering multiple choice questions, I was able to determine the areas throughout the class that required review. The students were able to immediately see the results of each question and were able to retake the test to get a higher score.

How do the results of the assessment change your teaching plans or method of delivery?
After seeing the results, I did a review activity and focused on a few concepts that the majority of students missed. This quiz helped in guiding future instruction in particular extension projects.
